Love and Hate

Can you imagine how two different people who grew up in two different worlds having different attitudes, trying to live in one roof , making things work out just to save their marriage?

Being married for more than 10 years made me realize that there are a thousand things I hate about my husband. Why am I still married? It’s because of these 10 things I love about him. Many couples would end up either separated or divorced because of this thousand things. But for me, i took it as a challenge in our relationship. I used this 100 things to make our relationship better.

For 10 long years we have been fighting and fighting on petty and huge things. Whenever I recall those huge fights we had and the reasons of our fight, it still breaks my heart and ask myself why am I still married. But the thought of those 10 little things makes me feel his love.

Others might call it martyrdom but for me its love. No relationship started with hate. It always starts with love. But as the relationship ages, you will discover many things and you will realize that what you love is what he hates and what he loves is what you hates. The only common thing that both of you are holding is that love you felt inside.

I just heard this song 7 things by Miley Cyrus there was a line there that I wanted to quote – “…And the 7th thing I like most that you do,
You make me love you..” No matter how much you hate him, you still end up realizing that you still love him.

New Year Escapade at Camiguin Island

This is the first time in my life that I spent New Year outside Davao City with my family. Thanks to our friend Mercy and Ruel-whose hometown is Camiguin Island. I already visited Camiguin Island for so many times but this experience was the best because we had lots of adventures and pictures. We were able to see how the locality celebrated their New Year and experienced fireworks.

At night you will be able to see various decorations that were left during the Christmas Season. There are many Christmas lights on the street as if they are into a competition on what barangay has the most lights and beautiful decoration.

During our 4 days and 3 nights at Catarman, Camiguin Island, we visited various tourist spots like the famous White Island…

The White Island is known to frequently change its shape everytime the tide changes its course. At this time the shape of the Island is crescent. Other times its circle, letter C or letter I. From White Island, you can see the beautiful view of the Old Vulcan and Mt. Hibok-hibok. Since White Island has very clear water, snorkeling and scuba diving is very ideal. The best time to visit the White Island is from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. where the sun is still good for sunbathing.

Next stop is Bura Soda Pool…

Cool bubbles in cool water

Bura Soda Pool has 2 pools in the middle of the garden resort. The smaller one is for kids and the bigger one is for adults and is good for swimming. The pool is cold and sparkling like a champagne because there are bubbles emitted in the middle of the pool.

The last stop for our 1st day tour was Sto. Niño Cold Spring…

Sto. Niño Cold Spring is a very very very cold spring that’s why this is the most popular place to stay during summer time for local tourists. It has a restaurant that offers variety of food like the Tinolang Bisayang Manok with Coconut Milk (yummy), a very good soup to warm your body. Outside the resort you can buy various souvenirs like key chains, figurines, shawls and t-shirts.

Our 2nd day was more relaxing since last night we partied all night as we welcome New Year with a blast. We only went to Ardent Hot Spring…

Ardent Hot Spring is known for its therapeutic effect in our body. It’s like a spa in the middle of nowhere. The hot water emitted by Mt. Hibok-hibok has a sulfur content. There are 6 pools to choose from based on your taste on warmth and depth.

After our restful stay at Ardent, we passed by the Old Volcano…

Here you will see the 14 Stations of the Way of the Cross. On the 14th station you will experience the scenery of the ocean as far as your eyes can see. Last 2007, during the Holy Week, my hubby and I were able to climb upto the 14th station. They said that if you were able to finish the 14 Stations, what you wish and ask for will come true…and it did!

Some places we just passed by were The Sunken Cemetery, The Old Gui-ob Church and The Lagoon.

Become an Employee of Choice

How does it feel when you were called for an interview by a company where you did not submit your resume? To be able to have one is not easy. An employer usually looks at your educational background, work experience and sometimes the University where you came from. What if you don’t have all these things? You’re transcript of record shows that you’re only an average student, just graduated from college, and finished your degree in a not so high standard kind of school.

Don’t feel down because all of us have our own skill that others might not have. Know where you are good at and what you love to do. Everyone is unique in each way. Others may have brilliant brains because they are able to give brilliant ideas; others are brilliant in a way that they can put those brilliant ideas into colorful pictures; and others are brilliant in selling those colorful pictures and make an earning out of it. So list down all the things you are good at and include it in your resume under ‘Special skills’.

Develop your special skills by constant practice, motivation and think positive. If in drawing is where you are good at, then draw. Draw what you like, what you love and what you want to see on your wall. Show your work to other people and let them make comments on it. May it be positive or negative accept it. More if it’s negative because you will have space for improvement. Attach your work in your resume so that the employer will see proof of your work.

Think in advance. Be on the shoes of the employer. What would the employer want to see in your resume? What are the questions that the employer might ask if he sees your resume? What are the qualities that are needed for the position? This entire thing should appear in your resume. Sell yourself.

Think positive. You can do it. Have confidence in yourself. Believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself then who will?

Happiness…

Most people consider money as an essential part of their happiness. People need money to have the comfort in life. To have a splendid vacation. To buy things that they want. To go to the salon to feel and be beautiful. To go to resto bars to buy drinks for their friends and acquaintances.

Others are happy when they are already at the peak of their career. When everyone is already below them in the organization. When people are looking up at them as successful leaders in their field of expertise. When their accomplishments are already in the publication. When their photo is in the cover of a prestigious business magazine.

For some, simply just by seeing their children grow means happiness for them. Not all men, women and couples are blessed with an angel. Conceiving is impossible for them because of some problems like health.

But the best way to be happy is being positive with your life. No matter how many typhoons you will encounter as long as you see your life in a positive way, things will always be okay. And forgive those who hurt you because no one is perfect. They might not did it on purpose.

I have a favorite quote and it goes like this…”When one door closes, a window opens”.

People are just never contented with their lives that’s why they are not happy.  They always crave for something more and sad to say, that is what human nature is.

How to love your children?

I had a short talk with one of my cousins yesterday. One thing I learned on that very short time is ‘How to love your children’. This may also apply not only to our children but also to the people around us. She said that according to the speaker in the recollection she had that day, LOVE itself has a meaning…

L – Listen with your heart. When you are listening to what your children are telling you like stories or his/her life that day, you should give your full attention to him/her and show him/her that you are interested on what he/she is telling. Sometimes when my daughter is talking to me I will just say “ah…mmm…then…good…okey” then that’s it the end of the story. Communicate. My mother never missed this part. No matter how busy she was during the week, she always find time to listen and talk to us.

O – Overflow with love. Our children do not need materials things in order for them to feel love. We thought that, because we already gave them the things they want like expensive toys, beautiful clothes or techy gadgets they already feel that they were being loved. NO! That is always the number 1 mistake that we always do. The best thing that we can do is just sit down with them, play, talk or even watch movie. Have fun! And express your feelings. Tell your children how much you love them and they are the most precious gift that God has given you. Even just a hug would make them feel that they are loved. ‘Mama, hug! It’s free!’ that is the usual line of my daughter if she wants to hug me.

V – Vibrate with them. Know the hobbies of your children. What they love and like to do or where they are good at. May it be academic or non-academic. Recognize their skills and talents and help them develop it. My daughter is a very sports minded person. At a very young age, she already showed signs that she is into sports. So when she decided to join the soccer team in her school we gave her our full support. We watch her practice and sometimes play with her.

E – Exemplify. Lead by example. We are our children’s idols. If we want them to grow up as a good and better person, we must show them how to be one by being one. We can’t tell our children not to smoke, drink or gamble if we are doing it. My daughter doesn’t want me to drink (alcoholic beverages). So before I take sip or if I am still planning to have one, I always ask my daughters permission and approval first. Hahaha… I just remembered…during my younger years…I have to deal with my parents with that and now I am dealing with my daughter. And unluckily, my daughter is more strict than my parents.

I know some of you reading this are already or going to be far . . . very far from you children. No matter where you are, just continue communicating with them. One of my nieces grew up without knowing her grandmother since birth but continuous communication through the net patches their gap. When she was very very young she always points at the computer and say “Mommy”.

Dayang Beach Resort

We should have climbed Apo at this point in time but a family friend invited us to go with them at Dayang Beach Resort at Samal Island. My sisters and I didn’t realize that this would be our last get away together since one left for an opportunity abroad.

Dayang Beach Resort is only a 1 hr. boat ride from Sta. Ana Wharf in Davao City. Though there are cottages for rent during night tour, we preferred to use our tents because we want to experience natural living.

Even though many local and foreign tourists are already visiting this place, the owner still preserved and maintained the natural setting of the place. An ideal place to spend a peaceful and a romantic vacation.

Summer Climb

At 2954 meters, Mount Apo is the highest mountain in the Philippines. This majestic peak is one of the country’s most popular climbing destinations.

Several trails lead to the summit, coming from North Cotabato and Davao provinces. An average hike requires 2-4 days. Various sights include Lake Venado, one of the highest lakes in the Philippines, and the old crater of Mt. Apo near its summit.  The mountain may be climbed year-round. Some trails are very easy that’s why some climbers bring their children with them.

We started climbing Mount Apo with our daughter in the year 2003 when she was still 4 years old.
